Homestead and over-65 exemptions
Apply through the appraisal district where your home is located. Ask about the general residence homestead exemption and any age-65 or disability exemption that applies to you.
A qualifying over-65 or disabled homeowner may have a school-district tax ceiling. A ceiling limits qualifying taxes; it does not freeze your appraised value. Improvements and other changes can affect it. County, city, and junior-college ceilings depend on local adoption; confirm each taxing unit with the appraisal district.

- Use the collector named on your bill for payment balances and due dates.
- Keep copies of applications, confirmations, and correspondence.
